A CNA is an individual who is responsible and capable of taking care of sick, disabled and elderly patients. They are a very important part of the health care team. CNA’s spend more time with the patients throughout the day helping with any request the patient may have in dressing, bathing, grooming, toiling, hygiene, walking and eating. They act as the “eyes and ears” of the team by observing and reporting changes in the resident’s condition. CNA has a strong knowledge of emergency procedures and be able to stay calm in stressful situations. CNA’s support the resident care plans which allows a patient to get well quickly and reach their optimum level of performance. High quality job performance as a CNA include having the physical stamina (physical fitness) to stand for long periods of time, bending, lift 40lbs or more, squatting but most importantly being able to be independent thinker and worker. CNA must be able to use creative thinking skills along with critical care thinking skills. CNA’s must work hard while in training to development time management skills and prioritize resident care until these skills are mastered.
